Current mood: cranky

Each day that passes by I lose more and more faith in both Hanson and Hanson fans. Seriously, taking a break from the fandom for a while.

I don't know where I'm at with the novel count, but you can add The Awakening by Kate Chopin, The Italian by Ann Radcliff, and The Monk by Matthew Gregory Lewis.

That is all.

The fans or the books?

The fans are like a cancer. A monsterous cult, from which I am having difficulty escaping. Unfortunately, I'm no better, because I'm one of them.

The novels, all of them fantastic. If I ever get time, I want to write my reactions about all of them.

Haha well I meant the books, but I understand about the fans too!

I look forward to reading your reactions. It will give me ideas about new books to look for :)

Which genre are you particularly interested in?

If you're looking for late 19th century realism, definately go with Chopin's The Awakening. It's a short read...you may not even find a version of it by itself; it was reprinted in full in my American Lit. anthology.

If you're looking for Gothic, I would recommend The Italian over The Monk. Even though The Italian is a response to Lewis's work, Radcliff's writing is a little more solid for the time period.

What I found interesting in all three novels, however, were the notions of gender role reversal, specifically in regards to love vs. passion, active vs. passive. But I won't get too literary about that right now.

:]

Thank you for letting me know about these books!
